How to tackle the dreaded period while protecting the planet.

Ok ladies. Let's be honest periods suck giant squid balls. But I believe I have found some light in the darkness. Something that makes me ALMOST forget I have even got the sacred red wedding, and certainly something that makes the whole experience way more bearable.

I don't know about you guys, but as an environmentally conscious person, the thought of filling our planet with dirty sanitary items makes me rather distressed. Being made of plastic means that the used pads are non-biodegradable. Meaning they will stay in the landfill for about 800 years! thanks.

The average woman uses around 12,000 pads and tampons in a lifetime. This contributes approximately 120 kg to landfill. In Australia, women contribute approximately 18 thousand metric tonnes of sanitary waste to landfill every year.

Small changes done by hundreds of individuals can make a big difference.

So forget the Tampons and the 'I'm wearing a nappy' pad and greet, with open arms, The Diva Cup. It is a reusable, bell-shaped menstrual cup that is worn internally, it collects rather than absorbs your menstrual flow. I know, it sounds a little terrifying, but trust me, it's amazing. I wish I started using it sooner. Putting it in does take a little getting used to, but once it's in you totally forget it's there! You can leave it in for 12 hours and can go about your day, without the constant worry of having to make regular trips to the bathroom, none of this trying to silently open pads or sneaky stashing sanitary items in your bag.

My top tip is put it in the shower in the morning and take it out and wash it in the shower that night.

I also found it helps my menstrual cramps! BONUS!

It's really important for us, as women, to know and understand our bodies, the Menstrual Cup empowers you to connect with your body and natural cycles!

I brought mine from the local chemist for $60 but you can also get it online from  Granted $60 feels like quite a lot but think about all the money your saving every year on pads and tampons.

So let us make a stand against pollution on our planet and start protecting it.
